Fitness Tests

The SSA expects all referees in the promotion scheme (SERP and Candidate Programs, Referees nominated for National Competitions) to successfully complete the fitness test to the minimum standard, as outlined in the chart below, at least twice per year. All SSA Outdoor Referees that are not in the promotional scheme are required to complete a yearly mandatory fitness test.

District referees seeking promotion to Regional Class must complete the Cooper Test or the High Intensity Test.
Regional/Provincial/National/Nominated National Referees must complete the High Intensity Test.

To accommodate large groups of referees, it is recommended that Member Organizations and/or Entity Members run the Cooper Test. If a referee passes a fitness test administered by a governing association (SSA or CSA), he/she does not need to run the Member Organization or Entity Member test, but must submit their result(s) to the Member Organization.

All Referees seeking promotion will be expected to meet the minimum fitness standard for the promotion level. The SSA reserves the right to consider referees that have completed one fitness test to the minimum fitness standard.

SSA Referees are required to attend one Mandatory Fitness Test per year. Starting 2014, the beep test is the SSA Preferred method for district referees. However, the Cooper Test is acceptable as well.
