Insurance Policy

A primary Membership benefit is coverage under SSA Liability and Accident Insurance Policies. All Regular and Associate Member Organizations and Entities as well as volunteers (Organizer Members) and Athletes, Coaches and Referees (Participant Members) are covered while participating in sanctioned events.

Please note: Coverage does not include participation in non-sanctioned events or participation against non-members.

For full details on the SSA Insurance Policy see Section Two – Article 9.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance provides protection against losses resulting from Bodily Injury due to accident for Players, Managers, Coaches and Officials during official games, practices and team/club travel throughout the entire season (from the date of first practice to the date season ends).

Coverage includes, but is not limited to, dental, eyeglasses, prescription drugs, crutches, ambulance, and physiotherapy. The policy does not cover the loss of wages.

The SSA Accident Insurance policy is a SECONDARY PAYABLE policy. This means, if employer coverage exists, the claim must first be made through your employment coverage and then through the SSA policy. Please check your employment coverage to ensure you receive all eligible benefits. For players under the age of 18 and without employment coverage, claims must first be made through the parent's employment policy.

Process for Completing an Accident Claim
From the day of the Accident participants have:

  • 30 days to see a Physician
  • 90 days from the date of injury to inform the SSA office of their injury in writing
  • One year from the date of injury to submit their claim form to the SSA office along with original receipts.  KEEP COPIES OF ALL RECEIPTS AND DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR RECORDS.
Forms & Documents:

Liability Insurance

Coverage includes General Liability Insurance (up to $10,000,000) and Directors and Officers Insurance (up to $5,000,000).

General Liability Insurance

Accidents happen and you can be sued by anyone who claims injury or damages resulting from your activities. You may not be liable, but you will need to be defended in court. The SSA Liability policy will pay for this defense as well as any costs awarded against you. In short, liability insurance gives you peace of mind.

Directors and Officers Insurance

Directors and officers may be sued for actual or alleged errors or omissions while performing their duties as officials of the organization. D&O insurance will pay those sums the organization, directors and officers become legally obligated to pay as compensatory damages because of a wrongful act.

Directors and Officers who properly register with the SSA as per Article Section Two – Article 6 noted shall be eligible for coverage under the SSA Insurance Policy.

Process for completing a Liability Claim
If you have any concerns about a potential liability claim against yourself or your organization, please contact the SSA promptly.
