Canada Soccer have announced their roster for the National Futsal Team’s identification camp in Gatineau, Québec from 6-9 September. National team Coach, Kyt Selaidopoulos has selected players who competed at this year’s 2018 Futsal Canadian Championship, including the first-ever selections from Territorial Member Associations in Yukon and Nunavut.
The camp is the first opportunity for Selaidoplouos to begin to assemble the squad that will build on the success of the 2016 Concacaf Futsal Championship team who came within one point of qualifying for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Saskatchewan's Nikolas Baikas, Mitchell Bauche and Jay Tomchuk were given the nod in the recent Canada Soccer announcement. All three players were part of Saskatoon's, SK Olimpia FC who competed in the 2018 Futsal Nationals in Kingston, ON as well as a part of the CanMNT ID Camp held March 2, 2018 in Saskatoon.
"Its is very exciting, for the growth of futsal here in Saskatchewan, to have increased our provincial representation at the next CanMNT Training Camp from one individual to three Saskatchewan based players," said Rahim Mohamed, SSA Director of Soccer.
He added, "it is important to celebrate these major achievements and thank those who have put in the hard work to blaze the trail for futsal in this province. We are excited to support the development of futsal and wish these players the best in their upcoming training camp and in their pursuits to continue their development at the international level."
