August 24, 2018
On July 31 Canada Soccer announced details on the much anticipated Club Licensing Program. "This initiative is a game-changer, not just for Canada but for Saskatchewan. Club Licensing will greatly enhance our collective ability to provide quality experiences for the athletes we serve while growing the capacity of all Member Organizations to advance the game to new levels. Through the introduction of standards and alignment of vision and action we have a chance to change the trajectory of soccer to become a truly Canadian game, not just in our participation levels, but also in the hearts of all Canadians just as it is throughout the World." Executive Director Doug Pederson
"The program is designed to raise the standards of soccer development across the country to improve the overall soccer system and guide soccer organizations toward best principles for organizational development both on and off the field. The Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program takes a principles-based approach which allows organizations to develop and select the methods by which they operate based on their available resources and unique situation and context. Developed in collaboration with Provincial and Territorial Association members, and incorporating international best practices, the program will set clearly defined standards and expectations for member organizations, recognize excellence in the soccer community, raise the level of clubs, and drive change within the soccer system throughout Canada." Saskatchewan Soccer is working diligently to develop the critical components that are necessary to implement Club Licensing within the province. To that end, we are working closely to prepare for a Member education session in early November, details on this will be finalized and circulated in the near future.
Rahim Mohamed, Director of Soccer is the lead for all technical aspects of Club Licensing for SSA. "This is a momentous moment for soccer development within Canada and will be a huge positive here in Saskatchewan. A great deal of research, collaboration and work has been put into the development of the Club Licensing Program by Canada Soccer and it will help provide a principles based approach to the development of young athletes. We are committed to supporting Member Organizations to achieve their desired classification and look forward to communicating in further depth with membership in the coming months."
