SSA Information Release - SSA Policy Update: Membership Structure

2018-06-26

Message from SSA President - Lisa Bagonluri

It was with unbridled enthusiasm that we received news that Canada, as part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 United Bid committee, will play host to the FIFA World Cup™.  The bid committee’s goal is to unite the world the world through football, and SSA applauds Canada Soccer and all involved for their leadership. We now have eight years to come together, and with focus and unity, we can truly enhance the long term future of soccer in Canada and Saskatchewan. We invite all SSA Members to take advantage of this game-changing opportunity

SSA will honour this opportunity through the execution of the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan. Since 2012, the membership structure of the SSA has been evolving and over the years extensive consultations with membership have solidified the Board’s approach to the Membership approval process.

  • Strategic Priority #23 challenges the Board to: Implement a simplified, effective membership structure for Saskatchewan soccer

To that end the SSA Board is pleased to release amendments to Section Two and outline below the principles and related policies that will guide future decisions by the Board.

Lisa Bagonluri, SSA President

Guiding Principles of Amendments to Section Two

  • Alignment of Vision and Action: Canada Soccer and SSA are working toward an aligned approach to soccer development.
    • We encourage our membership to align vision and action. We look forward to Canada Soccer’s release of details on Club Licensing in near the future which will help position Canada to begin the process of alignment to standards working from a common vision.
  • Remove Barriers to Participation: We welcome new partners that will support growth of the game.
    • The Board honours the role of existing members and also supports competition in the market place and welcomes new partners that will add value to the game through their approval as Members.
  • Participant Centred: Our players, coaches, officials and volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.
    • We will focus on enhancing our listening capabilities so that we better understand participant’s needs and also emphasize continuous improvement through self-evaluation, supported by standards (Club Licensing) and data (Surveys, consultations and other feedback opportunities).
  • Choices: The SSA respects that all participants and organizations have choices in how they participate and achieve their goals in soccer.
    • Players have a choice on where and how they experience soccer.
    • Member Organizations are welcome to seek approval to amend/expand their current Conditions of Membership to allow their full participation in all forms of soccer and/or futsal.
  • Innovation: We seek to find new and creative partners and approaches to developing the sport of soccer throughout the province.
    • SSA was the first province in Canada to welcome academies and for-profit organizations as members.
    • SSA welcomes Futsal, Walking Soccer, Beach Soccer and other innovations that meet participant’s needs and interests.
The Board, through the amendments to Section Two, has now clarified the principles for decision making related to approval of new members and for changes to the Conditions of Membership for existing members. We highly recommend members review those items which have been identified in Section Two with (0618). If you have any questions or comments related to the updated policies, please contact Nicole Drozda, Coordinator of Member Services.
