Important Info: Changes to the Coach Licensing Stream

2017-11-17

November 24, 2017

Important Update to SSA Coach Licensing Stream, Pre-B Assessment Expiry & Provincial B Re-Certification

We encourage you to share this widely among your membership, especially with your coaching personnel. Details & dates of upcoming licensing courses are detailed in this information release.

Pre- B Assessment Expiry
Over the past few years, Canada Soccer has continued to evolve the Canadian Soccer Coaching Education Pathway, which has culminated with new courses and older courses being reformatted. Detailed within the chart below is the pathway for coaches within the province and show changes to the licensing stream, as per Canada Soccer.

A significant change to the coach development pathway is the removal of the Pre-B course and the addition of the CSA C License. Coaches currently holding a Pre-B as their highest license should note, they will be allowed to audit (attend course without having to do an assessment) the CSA C License until December 31, 2019.  After this date, any coach who has not completed the CSA C License audit will have to complete the full CSA C License course (attending course plus completion of assessment) before progressing onto the CSA B License Part 1.

To summarize, the two scenarios available to a Pre-B license holder are as follows:

(1) Prior to December 31, 2019 - Pre-B License Holders must audit the CSA C License before progressing on to the CSA B License Part 1.

(2)  After December 31, 2019 - Pre-B License Holders must achieve CSA C License certified status (i.e., completion of the course and evaluation) before progressing on to the CSA B License Part 1.

Considering the changes in course structure, assessment protocol, and coaching methodology for coaches partaking on the newly formatted CSA C License and CSA B License Part 1, it is imperative that Coaches holding a Pre-B License either audit or complete the revised C License course.  This is to ensure there is a full understanding and awareness of the coaching methodology required to be successful within the Canada Soccer Coaching Education Pathway.

CSA B License Part 1 Re-Certification

Coaches who obtained their Provincial B prior to January 1, 2014, are highly encouragedrecommended to update their License by auditing a future CSA B License Part 1 course.

(1)   Prior to December 31, 2019 - Again it is highly recommended, but not required that preceding Provincial B holders audit the CSA B License Part 1 before progressing on to the CSA B License Part 2

(2)    After December 31, 2019 - Preceding Provincial B holders must audit the CSA C License and retake the CSA B License Part 1, if they wish to progress on to the CSA B License Part 2

Note: Coaches auditing the CSA B License Part 1will take part in all aspects of the course just as any other coach. The only difference is that a coach auditing the course will not have to complete an evaluation to achieve a "certified" status. More details regarding specific dates and costs will be released as soon as they are available.

We highly encourage any current Provincial B License holders who are interested in upgrading their certification by auditing the B License Part 1, before moving on to the CSA B License Part 2, to communicate their interest in auditing the B License Part 1 to Yiannis Tsalatsidis.
