Saskatoon's Thomas Hasal Named to Canada Soccer U-20 Roster for 2017 CONCACAF Championships

2017-02-10

Yesterday, Canada Soccer announced its roster for the 2017 CONCACAF Men's U-20 Championships in Costa Rica.

Sask Soccer is proud to congratulate Saskatoon's Thomas Hasal in being called up to represent Canada.

The goalkeeper was a strong presence in the net for Team Sask at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games and was a player of the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy before moving west to Vancouver.

In 2016, Hasal was called up to the U-18 national team in October, when he started in one of two matches against El Salvador in Toronto, saving a penalty kick in a 2-2 draw

He was called to a Canada U-20's Mens Camp in January, which included time in both Canada and Panama.

The CONCACAF Men's U-20 Championship runs February 17 to March 6 in San José, Costa Rica. Canada's initial group opponents are Honduras (February 17), Mexico (February 20), and Antigua & Barbuda (February 23). From the tournament, four nations will qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic, which runs May 20 to June 11.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program channels the nation’s exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with provincial and territorial partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada’s elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada’s men’s national team in international soccer.
