SSA Staffing Changes

2017-01-13

January 13, 2017 - The 2017-2020 Strategic Plan directs the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) to "Develop the skills and capacity of the SSA's human resources to enhance productivity". The SSA is responding through changes to the structure of our staff team. These changes position the SSA well to meet the increased demand of the new Strategic Plan.

Octavian Iliuta has accepted the newly created, full-time, position of Coordinator of Competitions.  Octavian joined the SSA in July of 2014 and has done quality work in both Competitions and Referee Development. Since his arrival, SSA competitions under Octavian's direction, including the Premier Soccer League, Saskatchewan Open Cup and Soccer for Life Provincial Championships, have been organized and delivered both professionally and to a high standard. In addition, in the last two years, his passion contributed to a 40% increase in referee registrations in Saskatchewan. The Strategic Plan calls for the SSA and its membership to "Expand the range of soccer competition and programming opportunities for players at Grassroots, Recreational, Competitive, and High Performance levels, in line with the SSA Player Pathway."  Octavian's passion and commitment to quality will certainly be an asset as the Coordinator of Competitions.

The Coordinator of Competitions will be primarily responsible for overseeing the organization and successful delivery of SSA leagues and championships (regional, provincial and inter-provincial) and providing support to SSA Member Organizations in developing, implementing and delivering competition, including tournament sanctioning and league development.

Chantal Boudreau now moves into the Coordinator of Referee Development role which has been expanded to a full time position. She joined the SSA in September of 2014 as the Business Administrator. Her attention to detail and knowledge in financial management have greatly improved our accounting system. In addition to her administrative strengths, Chantal is also an extremely accomplished referee and the first FIFA List Official ever from Saskatchewan. Her passion for and experience in refereeing will be extremely valuable in"Driving referee support across Saskatchewan."

The Coordinator of Referee Development is responsible for setting the overall direction and delivering strategic outcomes for referee development in Saskatchewan across the Grassroots, Recreational, Competitive and High Performance Streams.

Yiannis Tsalatsidis joins the SSA in the newly created role of Coordinator of High Performance, which has evolved from a part time position. In this role, he will be responsible for providing support to the High Performance Training Centre and Dedicated Players Programs and High Performance Showcase Series as well as overseeing high performance coach education. The addition of this new position addresses a number of Strategic priorities:

"Enhanc(ing) the quality of training for coaches entering the High Performance Stream with advanced coach licensing courses and mentorships with Master Coaches."

"Build(ing) a cohesive high performance framework that assures the preparation of Saskatchewan's top youth soccer talent for higher soccer opportunities."

Yiannis is an ambitious and open-minded student of the game and comes to the SSA from Winnipeg, Manitoba where he served most recently as Assistant Technical Director at St. Charles Soccer Association and Head Coach of Red River College Men's Soccer Team while also playing an active role within the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy Centre and Women's Regional EXCEL Program in Winnipeg.

Yiannis is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg with a degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in International Management and Marketing and brings with him excellent references from some of Canada's top technical leaders. "I have yet to see a coach in Canada to match his passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the game.  ...he is beyond his years and has an extremely bright future ahead of him." Blerim Iljazi - Phoenix Soccer Club Technical Director.  Yiannis will be working out of our Saskatoon office.

As this position evolves into a fulltime role, the SSA thanks Filipe Dos Santos for his energy and contributions in the part time capacity.  The SSA looks forward to continuing to work with Filipe through his involvement with Ginga Futebol Academy.

The Coordinator of High Performance will deliver high performance programs and services focused on preparing athletes and coaches and progressing them to higher levels of play, support the implementation of participant-centred and aligned programming within SSA Member Organizations and Entities, while also enhancing the mission and long term vision of the SSA High Performance Plan.

Shaina Grysiuk joins the SSA in the role of Administrative Assistant. Shaina rounds out the SSA staff team ensuring "The SSA has the financial and human capacity to meet the priorities of the plan". Through a partnership between Sask Sport and SSA, Shaina will provide reception support to the new office space at Mosaic Stadium. Shaina comes highly recommended and has significant experience in the three priority areas of this position: customer service/reception, administrative support and financial processing.

Over the next two to three months the Regina office will be preparing to re-locate the SSA to Mosaic Stadium while staff are getting comfortable in their roles and we appreciate your support while we are in the transition phase.
