The soccer community is invited to join us for a presentation by Dr. Adam Baxter-Jones from the U of S on “bio-banding”, the practice of grouping young players together according to their physical maturity rather than their age, followed by an opportunity to socialize with other coaches and technical leaders.

Dr. Adam Baxter-Jones is Professor in the College of Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan and is currently Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research. Originally from the UK, Dr. Baxter-Jones’ research areas relates to the growth, maturation and development of children and their relationships to body size and body composition. In the UK he worked with both the English and Scottish Football Associations in the area of talent identification, and, in particular, examining the role of physical growth and maturation on talent selection and sport participation during childhood and adolescence. He is currently part of a Scientific Advisory Group to a English Premier League Growth Study, which aims to establish a systematic set of procedures for the measurement of growth and maturation, educate practitioners on growth and measurement, and assist clubs to develop strategies to account for Individual maturational differences. Termed “bio-banding”, this is the practice of grouping young players together according to their physical maturity, rather than their age. In addition he is a member of the International Gymnastics Federation Scientific Panel and has worked extensively with Sask Sport and many sporting groups in the province.
