2016-07-20

July 20, 2016

To: SSA Regular, Associate, and Life Members
Re: MEMBER RESTRUCTURE PROPOSAL RELEASED
From: SSA Board of Directors

Following the information release on July 15, 2016 regarding continued progress towards SSA membership reform, we are pleased to present you with proposed amendments to the current SSA membership structure to help create a simpler, more concise, and more inclusive Saskatchewan soccer system.

These proposals are based on the substantial consultation the SSA has conducted on the matter with its membership (both organizations and participant) over the last year, combined with the recommendations of sport consultant Paul Varian of Capitis Consulting, who continues to assist the Association in these matters.

As noted in last week's information, the SSA is now inviting comments and feedback on the proposals and will be conducting another period of consultation and proposal review between now and October 2016. This is an unprecedented opportunity to make our soccer system better for all (notably for the players, who we all agree is central to everything we do).

We strongly urge your participation! Paul Varian will be hosting a conference call to present the proposal to Member Organizations and hear feedback at 7:00 p.m. on August 7th, 2016, which we invite you to join (Toll Free Tel: 1 877 986 5646 and enter Participant Code: 928904).

Alternatively, you can offer feedback directly to Paul Varian at pvarian@capitisconsulting.ca or 1- 905-466-7412.  Further opportunities for feedback on this evolving proposal will be made available in September and October.

July 15th 2016 Information Release Below:

In 2015, the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) engaged sport consultant Paul Varian from Capitis Consulting to lead consultation with the Association's Member Organizations to investigate the creation of a more effective SSA membership structure. Through many meetings and phone calls over the fall of 2015, culminating in a full day member workshop in November 2015, Member Organizations offered invaluable feedback on where challenges exist in the current system, and how the system can be improved for all.

After this period of consultation, Capitis Consulting issued recommendations to the SSA Board of Directors, who have recommitted the Association to improving the membership structure in its new strategic plan 2017-20:

Strategic Priority 23 - Implement a simplified, effective membership structure for Saskatchewan soccer. A new membership structure that creates clarity, equity, and simplicity in the SSA membership system has been introduced.

The Association is now ready to move to the next phase of this restructure process and is pleased to report that Capitis Consulting has been contracted to assist with this effort through March 2017.   Later this month (July), Capitis Consulting will be issuing a formal membership structure proposal to the SSA membership on behalf of the SSA Board of Directors for further consultation and discussion. Paul Varian will offer opportunities for all organizational members to engage in consultation regarding the proposal from August to October 2016.

Paul will be in Saskatchewan conducting member meetings in early August, early September, and again in October ahead of the member Bylaw submission meeting which will take place on October 23rd, 2016. Specific details on meetings and web-based meetings that will be available during this time will be released in the near future. Members will also have the opportunity to issue feedback to Paul remotely via telephone or email, at your discretion.

Following this consultation through October 2016, it is the intent of the SSA Board of Directors to bring a finalized membership structure for approval at the Association's 2017 Annual General Meeting in March.  While we understand the challenges of a very busy soccer season, the Board cannot do this significant work without your support and participation. We thank you in advance for your continued cooperation and support of this process, through which we can collectively build a better soccer system that benefits everyone in Saskatchewan.

If you have any early questions at this time, please feel free to contact  Doug Pederson, Executive Director, SSA or Paul Varian, Principal, Capitis Consulting.
