SSA Hosts Indoor Showcase League and Train to Train Combine in Saskatoon
2016-02-18February 18, 2016
REGINA – Many of Saskatchewan’s top youth soccer players will be on hand as the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) hosts the second of four High Performance Indoor Showcase League weekend events. The SaskTel Soccer Centre in Saskatoon will be the site for three days of high energy matches and training to begin on Friday, February 19, 2016 and finishing up on Sunday, February 21st, 2016.
The Indoor Showcase League is heading into its fourth year, providing Saskatchewan's High Performance athletes, coaches, and officials the opportunity to participate in 11v11 soccer year-round. This weekend’s events will have players, aged 14 to 17 years old, from Astra Academy, FC Regina, Queen City United Soccer Club, SSA High Performance Development Centre, and the FC Edmonton Academy. Having the FC Edmonton Academy participating is another step in the further development of the High Performance Prairie League, which is designed to meet the standards for Canadian Youth High-Performance Leagues set by the Canadian Soccer Association. Designed to be a standards-based league similar to that in Ontario and British Columbia, select pilot events will continue in 2016 as further partnerships are developed. The Indoor Showcase League continues to be another opportunity to exhibit the talents of both High Performance Development Centre players and High Performance Centres of Excellence athletes to provincial and visiting collegiate/university and national coaches, which this weekend includes, South Dakota State, University of Lethbridge, Concordia University of Edmonton, NAIT, and FC Edmonton.
In addition to this weekend’s matches, the first of three High Performance Training-to-Train Combine sessions will be taking place. This opportunity is for players, aged 12 and 14 years old, to demonstrate their abilities on the field, and further expose participants from across the province to High Performance Stream programming. The goal for the Combine is to develop a High Performance athlete performance database, and continues to be a mechanism to identify athletes for future High Performance Stream opportunities beginning during the 2016 Outdoor season. The remaining two sessions will take place prior to May.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch some great quality soccer matches and the schedule is provided below. As a developmental component of the High Performance Stream, the weekend’s events are not result-based, but rather an opportunity to expose athletes to further high performance training, competition, and evaluation.
