FORMAT FOR 2016 PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE (PSL)

2016-01-20

FORMAT FOR 2016 PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE (PSL)

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) is pleased to provide information to Member Organizations on the format for the 2016 Premier Soccer League (PSL). Significant member engagement has taken place throughout the second half of 2015 with regards to the future of the PSL as a part of the Competitive Stream Planning Process, which will lead to significant changes in the structure of this competition beginning in 2017. For more information on the future direction of the Competitive Stream, please visit the SSA website.

In the meantime, the PSL will be delivered in 2016 under the same principles as 2015, operating as a traditional league at the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 age classifications for both male and female players, unless the number of entries prevents it. Play will kick off over the weekend of May 28-29, 2016 (the weekend after Victoria Day) in order to allow teams the opportunity for pre-season preparation and to better ensure fields are in playable condition following the winter. The PSL Finals for Under 16 and Under 18 will take place over the Civic Holiday weekend of July 29-August 1, while the Under 14 event will take place on August 5-7 in order to accommodate players participating in the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games. Both Finals Weekends will take place in Saskatoon, maintaining the current hosting rotation. Based on recommendations received through the Competitive Stream Planning Process and in preparation for the transition to a new format in 2017, attempts will be made to “cluster” the schedule around certain weekends rather than distributing it evenly throughout the season.

The 2016 PSL Team Declaration Entry Form is now available on the PSL website. Team Declaration Entry Forms must be received, via an SSA Member Organization, by the Team Declaration Deadline of Friday, April 1, 2016 at 3:00pm in order to be accepted. Additional information on the PSL is available in the PSL Rulebook, which has been finalized for 2016 and is also posted on the PSL website. Participating teams are reminded that all affiliations must be declared on the Team Declaration Entry Form and cannot be amended afterward. These affiliations dictate all future roster transactions within the PSL.

PSL Fee Deadline – Monday, May 2, 2016
PSL Roster Deadline – Tuesday, May 10, 2016
