2016 SASKATCHEWAN SUMMER GAMES INITIAL INFORMATION RELEASE
Wednesday, September 16, 2015
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) is pleased to provide initial information regarding the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games, which will be hosted in Estevan from July 24-30, 2016. Since its inauguration in 1972, the Saskatchewan Games have provided an opportunity for Saskatchewan’s developing athletes, coaches and officials to participate in a multi-sport event in preparation for a higher level of competition. Soccer is excited to participate once again and join the Estevan 2016 Host Committee in promoting their mission to celebrate sportsmanship, friendship, volunteerism, and sport development. To learn more about this event, please visit the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games website.
The 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games Sport Technical Package has now been approved by both the Games Council and Saskatchewan Soccer Association. The Technical Package, along with other important information on the soccer competition, is available here.
In addition to the technical information, the SSA is also pleased to announce other important information pertaining to sport contact, coach and team selection and registration in advance of the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games.
In preparation for the Games, the SSA is responsible for selecting a primary contact in each of the nine Sask Sport Districts (Districts), who will be represented at the Games. This individual will be the primary contact for soccer within the District and will receive all information relating to district sport development initiatives, try-outs, and coach and team selection. In addition, the SSA is responsible for appointing the coaches and managers for each District team.
If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact Udo Baecker at 306-780-9225 ext. 2 or u.baecker@sasksoccer.com for additional information.
Finally, the SSA is responsible for overseeing and some financial aspects of the District selection process. In each District, the SSA will be responsible for the cost of two, two-hour blocks of time on a single, full size, outdoor, natural grass field for each participating team (i.e. 2 x 2 hours for each of the male and female teams to maximum of 4 hours per team). These sessions must take place on the same day, with a minimum of three hours between the conclusion of the first session and the start of the second in order to allow the athletes adequate time to recover. Additionally, the SSA will cover the cost of travel at a set mileage rate and meals at a set per diem for up to the three members of the coaching staff as defined in the Sport Technical Package. To receive this financial support, it is the responsibility of the District soccer contact and/or coach to submit the appropriate invoice, receipt and/or completed expense voucher.
In addition to financial support, the SSA is able to provide assistance with the selection process. The SSA will work with the designated District soccer contact and coaching staff to ensure a fair evaluation process. The District soccer contact will select the dates and locations of their selection events and communicate these to the SSA for final approval.
The SSA is also able to assist with the team selection process by attending the team selection event at the request of the District soccer contact or coaching staff, and by supplying additional equipment as needed. District coaches are asked to request any equipment required well in advance, as requests will be filled on a first come first basis with a limit to the amount of equipment available.
Upon selection of the District teams, it is encouraged that additional training opportunities be provided in preparation for the Games; however, the expenses associated with these activities are beyond the scope of the support provided by SSA and as such are the responsibility of the organizing group.
Sask Sport Districts, SSA Member Organizations and Entities, and individual participants are also reminded that all athletes, coaches and managers participating in the team selection process and at the Saskatchewan Summer Games, must be registered members in good standing with the SSA in order to be eligible.
Registration fees for the 2015/16 Indoor and 2016 Outdoor Seasons are as follows:
Many participants may already be registered with a Member Organization of the SSA. For additional information on the registration process or to check registration status, please contact Nicole Knecht, SSA Registrar, at 306-780-9225 ext. 3 or registrar@sasksoccer.com.
In addition to being a registered member in good standing of the SSA, all players in the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games soccer competition are also responsible to pay an $80.00 administrative fee to the Saskatchewan Soccer Association. This fee is in addition to the fees for participation that may be charged by the Sask Sport District and/or Saskatchewan Games Council. In addition to the above mentioned support, this fee also covers the cost of match uniforms for the Games, which will be provided by the SSA. Additional information on the administrative fee payment process and uniforms will be circulated in advance of the Games.
For more information on the Saskatchewan Summer Games, please visit the SSA website or contact Udo Baecker, Coordinator of Sport for All and Provincial Technical Liaison for the Saskatchewan Summer Games, at 306-780-9225 ext. 2 or u.baecker@sasksoccer.com.
