Sport Medicine Workshops
2015-03-17Sport Medicine Workshops
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA), in conjunction with the Sport Medicine and Science Council Saskatchewan (SMSCS), is very pleased to announce a series of sport medicine workshops, which will be available to coaches and team personnel in 2015 and 2016. As a part of the Grassroots, Recreational and Competitive Stream Plans, these workshops will support coaching development and equip participants with new knowledge to support athlete participation and development. The first sessions, which will take place in advance of the outdoor playing season, will focus on injury care and prevention and return to sport following injury. With few teams within the Grassroots, Recreational and Competitive Streams having access to sport medicine support on a regular basis, these sessions, which will be delivered by highly trained and experienced SMSCS Consultants, will provide coaches and team personnel with a foundation to support athletes under their care during the playing season. Workshops will take place in Saskatoon and Regina on the following schedule:
- Date: Sunday, April 19/15 from 10:00am-1:00pm
- Registration Deadline: April 15th
- Location: Executive Boardroom at Evraz Place, 1700 Elphinstone Street, Regina, SK S4P 2Z6
- Consultant: Scott Anderson
- Date: Saturday, April 25/15 from 10:00am-1:00pm

- Consultant: Bruce Craven
- Injury Care and Prevention, 10:00am to 11:30pm

Workshops are free to attend for any registered coach or team personnel in Saskatchewan; however, participants must register in advance. Space is limited in each workshop and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
In addition to these upcoming workshops, further educational opportunities are planned for fall 2015 and spring 2016 with a focus on Sports First Aid and Sports Taping. The SSA would like to thank the SMSCS for their support in this initiative as well as the Regina Soccer Association and Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc. for partnering in the delivery and promotion of these opportunities.
