INFORMATION RELEASE
SSA High Performance Development Stream
2015 Training to Train Provincial Selects Program
Females & Males (Under 12 - Under 14)
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) is pleased to announce details of the 2015 High-Performance Stream - Provincial Selects Program. The 2015 Provincial Selects Program encompasses two phases and is one of seven programs making up a province-wide High-Performance athlete development network. A general outline of the SSA High Performance Stream can be viewed at the link.
Currently in phase-four of a five-phase High-Performance Implementation plan, the 2015 Provincial Selects Program exposes and prepares Training to Train level athletes for High-Performance training and competition. Part of a comprehensively defined maturation-based pathway, Male and Female Training to Train athletes, from across Saskatchewan, are invited to participate.
The overall purpose of the High-Performance Stream is to discover sporting talent focused ruthlessly on succeeding to higher levels within the game of soccer. Athlete self-ignition is nurtured by Nationally and Provincially certified coaches and supported in training and competition environments that are deliberate, dedicated, and complex. A maturation-based training and competition system guides the dedicated athlete along the SSA developmental framework. Subsequently programming is driven by a 'realistic' framework and guided by an underlying maturation and science-based philosophy. Identified Saskatchewan High-Performance Stream participants are guided to strive for opportunities in highly ranked collegiate programs and identification at the National Teams and/or Semi/Professional Club level.
2015 Provincial Selects Program Training to Train Males and Females
PSP Preparation Phase
During each competition weekend participating athletes will be placed on a pre-selected squad and compete in two - three 9v9 or 11v11 matches. During each match athletes will be coached and evaluated by national and provincially certified Provincial Coaching staff. Additional staff members will include coaches working toward their higher level coach certification within the SSA's Centre of Coaching Excellence program.
2015 PSP Competition Weekends
The 2015 Provincial Selects Program will consist of three competition weekends, which are set for:
- February 21-22 Saskatoon; March 14-15 Moose Jaw; April 11-12 in Saskatoon.
PSP Maturational Development Stage:
- Training to Train: Early maturation U12 (born 2003) to Late maturation U14 (born 2000).
- Athletes born in 2003 and 2000 are required to have a letter of support from their Technical Director or Head Coach that confirms they meet the early or late-maturational criteria respectively, of a Training to Train athlete.
Preparation Phase Purpose:
- Exposure of Saskatchewan Training to Train athletes to the demands and expectations of Provincial level soccer programs. During each match athletes are evaluated and identified for invitation into the PSP outdoor Competition Phase.
Preparation Phase Match Design:
- Participating athletes will be placed on a team during each competition weekend. 9v9 or 11v11 matches will allow participating athletes to 'Showcase' their skills to Provincial evaluation and coaching staff. Teams will be selected in accordance with each athlete's maturational stage and in advance of each competition weekend. To ensure each athlete has the best chance of achieving success, athletes may be rotated between teams during the weekend.
- Ultimately the separation of athletes will be fundamentally based on chronological age; however, two stages of athletes will eventually evolve over the three competition weekends. Stage One encompasses younger chronologically, late maturing athletes, while Stage Two encompasses older chronologically, early maturing athletes.
Preparation Phase Athlete Identification:
- During each competition weekend athletes will be evaluated within the five pillars of SSA High-Performance Development. The five Pillars of Development include: Technical, Tactical, Physical, Psychological, and Social components. After the final competition weekend in April, athletes will receive notification of their identification for Phase Two of the program.

Depending on individual athlete evaluations, athletes will be placed in either the Stage One (Late Maturers) or Stage Two (Early Maturers) program for competition. - 30 Days Prior to Departure - $100 (to off-set a non-refundable deposit, cancelation fee or name change fee)
- 10-30 Days Prior to Departure - $250
- Within 10 Days Prior to Departure - full cost of flight plus any additional non-refundable expenses and/or cancellation fees up to the full cost of the program.

Final Remarks
The SSA High-Performance Stream is fully aligned to the Canadian Soccer Association's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model. As such programming is based solely on maturational development and not the traditional chronological placement method. Depending on whether an identified athlete is deemed to be a late or early maturer within the five pillars of athlete development, said athlete is subsequently identified to a best-fit (i.e., late/early maturation) Stage One or Stage Two Training to Train program.
During each competition weekend athletes will compete in either 9v9 or 11v11 matches. In addition to competition athletes will participate in team meetings for education on the SSA Provincial system and style of play. Weekend schedules are planned for release to all registered athletes approximately one-week in advance of each competition weekend.
