2015 Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program
Females & Males Training to Compete (U16)

 

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) is pleased to announce details of the 2015 High-Performance Stream - Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program.  Integrated with the SSA Provincial Selects Program and encompassing two phases, the Western Canada Summer Games program occurs every four years. 

 

The two phases of the Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program are a Preparation phase and a Competition Phase.  The initial Preparation Phase will incorporate three competition weekends between the months of February and April and be followed by a Competition Phase that includes a Pre-Competition Camp and the Western Canada Summer Games competition in Wood Buffalo, Alberta in August, 2015.

 

The 2015 Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program exposes eligible participants to the Saskatchewan High-Performance system and style of play, integrated sport science/sport medicine initiatives, level of expectation/demand and fitness requirements for participation at the High-Performance level.  Part of a comprehensively defined maturation-based High-Performance pathway, Male and Female Training to Compete High-Performance athletes, from across Saskatchewan, are invited to participate. 

 

Additional information on the 2015 Western Canada Games Evaluation program is provided below.

 

2015 Western Canada Games Evaluation Selection Programs

 

High-Performance athletes born in the '99/'00/'01 birth years are eligible for participation in the 2015 Western Canada SummerGames Evaluation Program.  The final roster of 18 athletes selected to attend the Western Canada SummerGames in August, 2015 will be selected from either:

 

  • The SSA High-Performance Stream Training to Compete- Stage One 11v11 Indoor Showcase League, which for 2015 will be operated in conjunction with the 2015 Training to Train Provincial Selects Program.

Or

 

  • The SSA High-Performance Stream Training to Compete-Stage Two 11v11 Indoor Showcase League.

 

Preparation Phase (February, 2015 - April, 2015)

 

During each Indoor Showcase League competition weekend, the on-field and off-field performance of each participating athlete will be evaluated by Western Canada Games and/or Provincial Selects Program staff members.

 

Preparation Phase Purpose:

 

  • Exposure of potential Western Canada Summer Games athletes to the 11v11 game for realistic program evaluation.
  • Instruction and education on program requirements, expectations, sport science integration, and the SSA High-Performance system and style of play.
  • Selection of potential athletes for the Competition Phase and eventually participation at the Western Canada Summer Games competition.

 

Western Canada Summer Games Athlete Identification:

 

Potential Western Canada Summer Games athletes will be evaluated within the five pillars of SSA High-Performance Development.  The five Pillars of Development include: Technical, Tactical, Physical, Psychological, and Social components. 

 

Eligible athletes may be selected from the Stage One Indoor Showcase League program, which is being operated in conjunction with the Provincial Selects Program, or through the Stage Two program, which will identify athletes through the Training to Compete Indoor Showcase League.  After the final competition weekend in April 2015, athletes identified from the Preparation Phase will receive an invitation to the Competition Phase of the Western Canada Summer Games program.

 

ISL Stage One Athlete Identification

 

Eligible athletes, who are not registered on a squad participating in the Indoor Showcase League Stage Two Program, may register to participate in the Indoor Showcase League-Stage One program.  Athletes registered in Stage One will be placed on a pre-selected squad on each one of the competition weekends, where they will compete in at least two 11v11 matches.  During each match athletes will be coached and evaluated by Western Canada Games and Provincial Selects Program staff members. 

 

The 2015 Indoor Showcase League Stage Two Preparation Phase Weekends are set for:

  • February 21-22 Saskatoon
  • March 14-15 Moose Jaw
  • April 11-12 in Saskatoon,

Stage One Match Design:

 

  • In advance of each competition weekend each participant will be placed on a pre-selected team consisting of approximately 15 athletes.  The exact number of athletes and squads will be determined by the total number of program applicants.
  • Each squad will participate in at least two 11v11 matches during each competition weekend.  This will result in at least six 11v11 evaluation opportunities during the Preparation Phase.
  • This process will allow participating athletes to 'Showcase' their skills to the evaluation staff.  To ensure each athlete has the best chance of achieving success, athletes may be rotated positionally or play a various roles to see how they respond.

Stage One Registration Process:

 

  • All interested athletes can register by completing the on-line Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program Registration Form, which can be found on our website at2015 Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program webpage
  • Registration Deadline: December 08, 2014 by 5:00 pm
  • Late registrations will be assessed a $25.00 late fee and accepted until 5:00 p.m. on December 15, 2014.  Registrations will not be accepted after December 15, 2014 and will not be accepted on site at the first competition weekend.

Stage One Fee Information:

 

  • All participating athletes receive two sets of training kit (shirt, shorts, socks) to be worn during each competition weekend.
  • Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Phase One Program fee - $300.

ISL Stage Two Athlete Identification (For information purposes only).

 

Athletes participating in Stage Two of the Indoor Showcase League will are eligible for Western Canada Summer Games identification.  As these athletes are already registered on an ISL squad, registration through the Stage One Registration Process outlined above is not required. 

 

During each competition weekend athletes will be evaluated for participation in the Competition Phase of the Western Canada Games Evaluation Program.  Fees for participation in the ISL Stage Two program will be set by the squad you are participating with in the Indoor Showcase League.

 

The 2015 Indoor Showcase League Stage Two Preparation Phase Weekends are set for:

  • January 10-11, Moose Jaw.
  • February 21-22, Saskatoon.
  • Feb 28-Mar 01, Moose Jaw.
  • March 14-15, Moose Jaw.
  • March 28-29, Moose Jaw.
  • April 11-12, in Saskatoon.

Competition Phase (May, 2015 - August, 2015)

 

At the end of the Preparation Phase identified athletes will be invited to participate in the Competition Phase of the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games Evaluation Program.   

 

Competition Phase Preparation Competition:

 

  • In advance of travel to competition in Wood Buffalo, Alberta, during the week of August 6-12, 2015, a preparation training/competition event, consisting of three matches, is tentatively set to occur in Winnipeg, Manitoba from July 20-26, 2015.   If this competition goes forward as planned, it will provide the opportunity to finalize team shape and balance, lineup rotations, preparation and recovery methodology, and to develop team unity.

Competition Phase Fee:

 

  • The Competition Phase fee includes a travel bag and a sweatshirt alongside all accommodation, and meal requirements while at the preparation event.  Also included are all accommodation, meal, and travel requirements while at competition.
  • Phase Two Fee: $500, Phase 2 fee due date: Friday, June 5, 2015

 

Final Remarks

 

The Western Canada Summer Games competition is an opportunity to expose Saskatchewan's identified athletes against competition from our Western Provinces.  Eighteen athletes will eventually be selected to compete at the Western Canada Summer Games.  During each weekend during the Preparation Phase athletes will be evaluated in 11v11 matches and in a tournament style environment during the Competition Phase.  Travelling to Wood Buffalo, Alberta in August, 2015 the selected athletes will compete over a six-day period against our Western Neighboring provinces and the Territories.
